Marian Sylvester

Marian Sylvester Asked: How do you support the idea that to be great is to be misunderstood?

By this, I referred to the fact that great people are usually ahead of their times. For example, Copernicus thought that the sun, not the earth was the center of the universe. This idea was harshly rejected and he was told that if he didn't retract his findings, he would be executed. sometimes, it is a matter of the times and people sometimes just cannot understand these concepts.

Adrienne Risner

Adrienne Risner Asked: What do you think people who cast aside the motives of mankind and only lives for himself?

Like I said, any man who lives like this is godlike or at least the next best thing. As a wise man (me) once said if you live like you said, "High be his heart, faithful his will, and clear his sight".

Victoria Odom

Victoria Odom Asked: In your essay you wrote,"A foolish consistency is the hemoglobin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines." What did you mean by that?

When I wrote that, I meant that people shouldn't allow others to decide things for themselves and always do what your conscience tells you what to do.

Amelia Berryman

Amelia Berryman Asked: How can I achieve peace?

In order to find peace, you must look past the material world and instead find peace in yourself. The triumph of your own principles and beliefs will bring peace to you.

Bertha Robey

Bertha Robey Asked: What defines a true man? How would you describe him?

I have pondered this for months at a time and I realized sometimes the answer is the simplest  A true man is one who belongs at the center. He doesn't align himself with anyone and stay alone achieving and accomplishing their own thoughts with no other help.

Sally Kindred

Sally Kindred Asked: Do you feel like adults or children are more self reliant?

Children. children are spontaneous often times thinking about topics long put to rest, consistently questioning things without rest, and thinking (most of the time) for themselves. adults are more careful and worry more about how their words and actions would affect their standing in the eyes of others. Kids on the other hand are not and perhaps this kind of spontaneous thinking is something we all need a little of.

Jeffery Bradfield

Jeffery Bradfield Asked: What is the greatest risk a person faces when going against the community?

I firmly believe in the idea that the merits of being individual far out weighs the potential repercussions that would result from resisting the current system. You should be no different and fear not what the community might say or do to you.

Harriet Coranado

Harriet Coramado Asked: What do you think is the most important part or aspect of life?

I've been asked this numerous times and I cannot seem to stress it enough. Everyone should rely on what their mind because it matters not what the man in Washington nor your boss tells you what to do. In the end, your most reliable sense is that of your mind. As stated in my essay Self Reliance, "nothing is more sacred than the integrity of your mind."

Jenny Fabian

Jenny Fabian Asked: Why should other people trust themselves? Why don't I just go with the crowd?

Excellent question Jenny. The answer is because if everyone were to fallow one another, people and society would forever stay the same. Nothing new would come about from life and human thought and independent thinking would be just about nonexistent.

Larry Drees

Larry Drees Asked: What do you believe in providing for the indigent based on your essay, Self Reliance?

I think that individualism and nonconformity are needed for those less fortunate than us because every individual has somesort of inner genius that they have yet to discover.
